Drunk Lit But Make It Spooky!

Hello, Book Nerds! Welcome back to Reading Has Ruined My Life or welcome if you are new. As always, my name is Hannah and I am your captain on this journey into my bookcases.

Welcome back to Drunk Literature, RHRML Fans! Today’s game is brought to you by the horror genre. I’ve picked five horror reads and poorly explained them. Your job is to guess what the hell I’m talking about. Much like every other time I’ve done this, I am not drunk. Drunk Literature is clickbait, I’m not sorry.

Michael Myers dancing.
The horror is a guarantee though.

As always, character names, settings, and major plot points have been changed and/or eliminated so you can’t guess the book on names and events alone. The answers are below the Jeopardy gifs so scroll slowly. Also let me know your score in the comments below. I want to know if I’ve stumped you or not. And with that, let’s get to some Drunk Literature!

"Let's get ready to rumble."

5. There was once a man named Ben who went back to his hometown for inspiration. This town was in the middle of nowhere. One day, the town began suffering from an infestation of rabid animals which began infecting the townsfolk. Ben was smart enough to figure out the cause of the infestation but it was lowkey too late. Nearly everyone from those in the trailer park to doctors to Ben’s landlady caught the disease. Seriously, this infection was a problem. It was an epidemic. In the end, Small Town USA was lost and the only two survivors were Ben and this random kid Ben basically stole. Guess that book!

Kicking off our game is Salem’s Lot by Stephen King. Y’all, this is only the second time I’ve talked about Stephen King on RHRML and both times have been about Salem’s Lot. Crazy! Anyway, Salem’s Lot is my favorite King book, and you should all go read it. I love a good vampire story and this is certainly one of them.

4. Horror Movies heroines end up in the cross-over event of the century to find out who is the Final Final Girl. None of them signed up to be there.

Jeopardy.

Does the term Final Girl give this one away? Possibly. I’m talking about the one and only The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix. This one is campy fun and I love it for that.

3. Shit hits the fan at Disney World when a hurricane strands workers in the park. They then proceed to go Lord of the Flies on one another. Brain matter is discussed far too much. Guess the read!

Jeopardy.

FantasticLand by Mike Bockoven! I just read and reviewed this book so go read my review. Spoiler alert, it’s a 10-out-of-10.

2. Man creates and runs away from his problems after he takes a nap. What’s the book?

Jeopardy.

It’s Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. My favorite part about this is the fact Victor Frankenstein actually does what I wrote. It sounds like I’m joking in my bad explanation but it’s genuinely the TL;DR of Frankenstein.

1. The Walking Dead but make it the Civil War. The main characters Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss their way across the country. Guess that book!

Jeopardy.

This one is a bit of a trick question cause it’s technically two books. It’s the Dread Nation duology by Justina Ireland! I haven’t read these books in ages and I’m well overdue for a reread. If you like zombie books and/or books with strong female leads and you haven’t read this duology yet, then you need to. They do not disappoint.

Thus endeth our list! How’d you do? Did you get all five right? Maybe half of them? None at all, did I totally stump you? Doesn’t matter, I hope you had fun and enjoyed your time here today. Thank you for playing along.

With that, I must bid you all adieu. I shall see you all again very soon with a special post to finish out Spooky Season.

Until then, stay safe, wash your hands, and read some good books for me.

Bears waving.
See y'all soon, bye!
