I Got 99 Books and Not Enough Time: What's On My TBR Pile Part 4

Hello, Book Nerds! Welcome back to Reading Has Ruined My Life or welcome if you are new. As always, my name is Hannah and I am your captain on this journey into my bookcases.

I know it’s the end of January when this post is going live, but when I’m writing this, it’s the day after Christmas. My house looks like I robbed a bookstore. I was fortunate enough to be given lots and lots of books as Christmas gifts. Meaning my TBR pile is getting a little out of hand. So I thought I would share some of the books sitting pretty on my TBR pile.

Rainbow book pile.

This is just a small sampling of what I have waiting for me. I’m sure you’ll see everything on my TBR pile at some point this year seeing as I have lots to read and review. Anyway, let’s get into it. Let’s dip our toes into my TBR pile.

5. Kicking off today’s list is My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine. I’m trying to broaden my reading spectrum, hence the romance. Though, is this read really out of my comfort zone? It’s got spooky stuff and vampires in it after all. Yeah, it’s not too different from what I tend to read, but I’m not a big romance reader so therefore my reading spectrum is being broadened. My Roommate is a Vampire drew me in with the spooky-lite elements in a rom-com setting. This one seems so cute and I look forward to reading it.

4. Next up is Episode Thirteen by Craig DiLouie. A little bit about me, I’m a big fan of ghost hunting TV shows. I know most aren’t good, but I enjoy the cheese. They’re good background noise for me while I work. Another little fact about me, anytime I can get some meta media of a film or book set in a film or book I’m a happy camper. A ghost hunting TV show is the focus of this novel. Husband-wife ghost hunting team, and stars of the fictional show Fade to Black, have the honor of investigating the Paranormal Research Foundation’s home and shits about to get real! Meta media, ghost TV show, and told through notes, transcripts, and newspaper clippings to tell the narrative; yes please!

3. Bringing us in at number three is One For All by Lillie Lainoff. One For All is a feminist, female lead version of The Three Musketeers. I’ve known of One For All since its release and it has always been in the back of my mind. I had interest in reading it, but, and I mean this with no offense to the author and her book, it never jumped to the top of my list. Until I learned that both the author and main character of One For All have POTS. And I bawled. POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) is something I too live with. In short, it’s not fun. Hearing about the POTS representation, and One For All being the only book to feature this chronic illness, made me want to read it right away.

2. The Christie Affair by Nina de Gramont is next up at number two. Agatha Christie’s disappearance haunts me. I need answers. Now I know I’m not going to get any actual answers about the famous author’s disappearance in The Christie Affair, but I like the idea of this novel. If you haven’t picked up on the plot yet, this novel has some focus on Agatha’s disappearance just a little bit. The novel is told from the point of view of Nan O’Dea, who is Archie Christie’s mistress, during the 11 days in which Agatha is missing and the possible involvement of Nan and Archie. This is a story of passion, love, and lies. A story with secrets ready to be revealed. Yeah, yeah. I’m gonna gobble this one up.

1. Finally, at number one, we have The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean. I am obsessed with this book’s premise. A secret group of people who eat literature in order to survive? Sure! I’m intrigued. I wanna read that book. Oh, but it gets better! Devon has a son who doesn’t want to eat books. He wants to eat people’s minds! And she has to keep this secret in order to keep her son alive. What is a step above intrigued? Cause that's what I am. I need to learn about this world, this culture, the secrets, this family drama; I need to learn everything. I will be devouring this one soon.

Thus endeth our list! This is a very small sampling of what’s currently on my TBR pile. Fingers crossed I can get through my TBR somewhat quickly. I’d like to add more to it, but it needs to become smaller first. I’m sure many of you can relate.

Thank you for joining me today. I hope you enjoyed your stay. I shall see you all again next week with a new review.

Until then, stay safe, wash your hands, and read some good books for me.

Bears waving.
See y'all then, bye!
